Plasma donation: New thinking to serve Europe’s patients -- Practices & approaches for countries
In the coming decade European countries will see an increased need for plasma-derived medicines to treat their patients for a range of rare diseases and critical medical conditions. While demand for blood components for transfusion remains relatively stable, a European Commission survey (2014) shows that demand for plasma derivatives is increasing by some 6% per year.

Plasma-derived medicinal products PDMPs), derived from human plasma from healthy donors, are essential for around 300,000 European patients who rely on these therapies to treat a variety of rare, chronic, and potentially life-threatening conditions, which are often genetic in origin.

PPTA Responds to ProPublica Article
An article published by ProPublica on June 24 (“The U.S. Is Closing a Loophole That Lured Mexicans Over the Border to Donate Blood Plasma for Cash”) is the latest sensationalized reporting from ProPublica and ARD German TV reporters who continue to misrepresent and malign U.S. policies regarding plasma donation as well as the scores of committed individuals who cross the U.S.-Mexico border to donate their plasma.
