The International Plasma Protein Congress (IPPC) is known for high-quality sessions that address the most critical issues in the plasma sector. The Congress gathers speakers from around the world, each bringing diverse experiences and expertise. This rich variety of backgrounds provides attendees with an opportunity to understand plasma sector challenges and opportunities from multiple viewpoints.

To capture the essence of the IPPC experience in this blog post, past speakers and attendees share what stood out to them in their Congress experience:

“IPPC this year was another great encounter with many colleagues; it is like a family reunion.”

- Thomas R.Kreil, VP - Global Pathogen Safety, Board Member & Executive Director for Austrian Legal Entity at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, IPPC 2023 Joachim Hilfenhaus Award Recipient

Coming to IPPC is a great opportunity to hear all perspectives — what the concerns are, what the needs are, not only from patients but also from the industry and regulatory authorities. It’s a place where everyone comes together to share both needs and updates. For me, it’s a great opportunity to hear from all the stakeholders involved.”

- Irene Saugar Gómez, Ph.D, Quality Assessor of Biological Human Medicinal Products with the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices,
IPPC 2023 Attendee

“I want to say thank you to PPTA for allowing patient advocates like myself to be able to attend and hear these critical updates from across the globe.”

- Nathan Schaefer, Public Policy at World Federation of Hemophilia, IPPC 2023 and IPPC 2024 Attendee

“2024 was probably my third time attending this conference, and for me, it’s a worthwhile event for a number of reasons. First, there’s an interesting blend of voices — you have perspectives from the public sector, the private sector, industry, clinical, scientific, and commercial lenses. It’s high value for people like myself to attend. It’s probably one of the key events in the plasma industry calendar, and there’s a lot of value and learning that comes from attending this conference.”

- Gerry Gogarty, Director Plasma for Medicines at NHS Blood and Transplant (England), IPPC 2024 Session Speaker

“What I enjoyed and valued the most is the quality and level of information that we are receiving. It is business-oriented, people-oriented, scientific-oriented, a little bit of everything, and that is what I really enjoyed; I found it really interesting and very educational.”

- Marieangela Economopoulou, Head of External Affairs and Patient Value Access – Greece, Cyprus, Malta at Takeda Pharmaceuticals,
IPPC 2024 Attendee

Svenja Barckhausen, an IPPC 2025 session moderator (Session 3, Pushing Barriers: Global Perspectives on Improving Patient Access), shared her thoughts ahead of the Congress, highlighting why she sees this upcoming discussion as timely and necessary.

“Ensuring equitable access to plasma-derived medicines is a global challenge. I am honored to moderate this important discussion at the International Plasma Protein Congress, bringing global perspectives into one conversation to explore the diverse challenges patients face outside of Europe and the U.S.”

- Svenja Barckhausen, CEO and Founder of Blood Plasma Strategy Experts UG
